(August 4, 2026) – The Portland Thorns announced today that it will have an on-field pre-match ceremony to recognize former U.S. Women’s National Team legend Tobin Heath at Providence Park on Saturday, August 22 when the Thorns host Denver Summit FC. In addition, Heath will sign a one-day contract to officially retire as a member of the Portland Thorns, where she established herself as a Club icon and one of the game’s greatest athletes.
Fans can purchase tickets for the August 22nd match HERE and be part of the ceremony celebrating Heath’s legendary career. The match, presented by Toyota, is currently scheduled to kickoff at 5:45 pm PT.
One of the most prolific forwards in the history of women’s professional soccer, Heath’s legacy is cemented by a highly decorated career for both club and country. Heath was instrumental in Portland’s path to becoming the NWSL’s most successful club, representing the Rose City on the field between 2013-2020 and helping the Thorns lift two NWSL Championships (2013, 2017) and the 2016 NWSL Shield. She is Portland’s all-time regular-season assist leader with 24 and is the NWSL’s co-leader in single-season league assists with 10 which she set in 2016. Across all NWSL competitions, Heath combined for 66 starts in 73 matches played for Portland and scored 13 goals.
Heath was a major contributor to one of the USWNT’s most successful eras, playing in 181 matches and representing her country at three FIFA Women’s World Cups, winning the 2015 and 2019 editions. She also represented the U.S. in four Olympic Games, winning gold in 2008 and 2012 and bronze in 2021. The 2016 U.S. Soccer Women’s Soccer Player of the Year and 2026 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, Heath scored 36 goals and assisted 42 for the USWNT.
Heath’s individual accolades also include a selection IFFHS Concacaf Women’s Team of the Decade (2011-2020) and the 2020 FIFPro’s Women’s World11 plus being named the 2013 NWSL Championship MVP and NWSL Best XI on three occasions (2016, 2018, 2019).
