Today it was announced that Sophia Smith is nominated for the 2024 Ballon d'Or. This is Smith's second year, and second year in a row being nominated for the international award. Since 1956, the Ballon d'Or is presented by French magazine France Football honoring the player deemed to have performed the best over the previous season.
Smith is one of five United States women's national team players nominated for the award, the other include: Mallory Swanson, Trinity Rodman, Lindsey Horan, and Alyssa Naeher. Here’s a list of all the nominees.
The winner will be announced on October 28, 2024.
