Thorns FC's Sam Coffey, Olivia Moultrie and Sophia Smith named to U.S. Women's National Team for SheBelieves Cup

Three Portland Thorns FC players - Sam Coffey, Olivia Moultrie and Sophia Smith - were named to the USWNT roster for the upcoming SheBelieves Cup, taking place April 6-9.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC midfielders Sam Coffey and Olivia Moultrie and forward Sophia Smith have been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster for the upcoming SheBelieves Cup, presented by Visa, taking place on April 6 and April 9 in Atlanta and Columbus, Ohio, respectively.

The trio recently helped the United States win the first-ever Concacaf W Gold Cup, with Coffey starting in five of the six matches, while Olivia Moultrie scored two goals and Sophia Smith contributed another. In total, Smith has scored 16 goals in 44 appearances, with Moultrie netting two in four appearances and Coffey scoring one in 13 matches.

All four teams - U.S., Brazil, Canada and Japan - come into the tournament ranked in the top 10 in the world, all competed in last year’s SheBelieves Cup tournament and all four have qualified for the 2024 Olympics. Due to the change in FIFA competition windows and the staging of the Concacaf W Gold Cup in February and March, the format of the SheBelieves Cup also changes this year. While there will still be four participants, there will be four matches instead of the usual six and the teams will play Semifinals (April 6), a Third-Place Match and the Championship (April 9). The format will return to three doubleheaders in 2025.

In the Semifinals on Saturday, April 6, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the USA (#4) will face Japan (#7) at 9:30 a.m. (Pacific) (broadcast on TNT, Universo, Max & Peacock) and Brazil (#10) will take on Canada (#9) at 12:30 p.m. (Pacific) (broadcast on Universo, Max & Peacock).

The four nations will then travel to Columbus, Ohio, with Lower.com Field hosting the final two games of the tournament at 1 p.m. (Pacific) and 4 p.m. (Pacific) on Tuesday, April 9, as the Semifinal winners play in the championship and the losers play in the third-place match. The USA will play in the 4 p.m. (Pacific) time slot (broadcast on TBS, Universo, Max & Peacock) whether it is playing in championship or third-place match, and the other game will be at 1 p.m. (Pacific) (broadcast onTBS, Universo, Max & Peacock).

On Saturday, March 30, the Thorns continue their regular-season schedule when they host Racing Louisville FC at Providence Park. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. (Pacific), with tickets available via SeatGeek. The Thorns match will be broadcast nationally on ION, locally on KPXG-TV.
