Mackenzie Arnold enters her second year in Portland as the team’s vice-captain with the Thorns looking to tap into her veteran and international experience to be a strong leadership voice.
Arnold joined the Thorns midway through the 2024 season after a standout career with historic English side West Ham United, registering 88 appearances in goal across all competitions for the Hammers. Her final season with West Ham in 2023/24 saw Arnold be named team captain and go on to win the team’s Player of the Year Award.
An Australian international who debuted with the senior national team at 18, Arnold has 58 caps with the Matildas and has been a member of several squads that competed in FIFA Women’s World Cups (2015, 2019, 2023) and Summer Olympics (2016, 2020, 2024). She rose to international prominence in 2023 after being named a finalist for FIFA’s Best Goalkeeper Award, a nomination she earned after a stellar World Cup campaign highlighted by her three straight penalty saves against France to send Australia to the semifinals, a historic first for the country.
In addition, Arnold is a two-time A-League Women champion (2014, 2017/18) and three-time A-League Women Goalkeeper of the Year winner (2012/13, 2014, 2017/18).
